Area Guide
Midlothian, VA
Founded over 300 years ago as a coal-mining village, Midlothian is now a suburban community located west of Richmond and South of the James River. Midlothian is the site of the first commercially mined coal in the Virginia Colony and in what later became the United States. Before its mining era the area had been populated for thousands of years by various cultures of Native Americans. You’ll find many area schools, bridges, and other landmarks named after both of these groups.
Midlothian has many new and established neighborhoods, shopping malls, golf courses, parks, movie theaters, churches, and excellent schools. Some parts of Midlothian offer more rural living options. Located just off of Rt. 288 and along much of Rt. 60, Midlothian is conveniently located and not far from any area of Richmond.
