This is a suburban area west of Richmond located off of I 64 between I 295 and Rt. 288 that has greatly increased in popularity in recent years.
Short Pump is rich with history; originally this area was the crossroads for Three Notched Trail, the principal route between Richmond and Charlottesville. The area was later named Short Pump for the short handled pump that was located beneath the porch of a tavern located here, that tavern was built by a Revolutionary War veteran in 1815.
Today Short Pump features popular shopping areas and upscale living options including apartments, townhouses, and family friendly neighborhoods. Short Pump Mall is central to this area and offers numerous stores and eateries. Popular chain stores and restaurants as well as unique, privately owned boutiques and restaurants can be found here along with a children’s museum, bowling alley, comedy club, and many other entertainment outlets. This area offers convenience and endless options.
